Vallon GmbH UXO & Mine Detectors

The Company

Vallon GmbH is an internationally operating manufacturer of Metal Detectors (Mine Detectors) and Ferrous Locators (UXO bomb locators) for humanitarian and military applications.

Since 2005, Vallon also offers a Dual Sensor Detector for non-metallic mines, the Minehoundtm VMR2, comprising a metal detector and a ground penetration radar.

A further field of activities based on magnetism is the product range of powerful degaussing systems.

With the experience of more than 40 years and with a staff of highly qualified engineers as well as close contacts to the end-users, Vallon GmbH develops equipment of highest quality standards that meet customers requirements worldwide.

Data of incorporation
Founded by Richard Vallon in 1965 as a privately owned company.
Since 1972 registered as Vallon GmbH (Private Limited Company)
Force Ware GmbH was founded in 1999 as our subsidiary for the supply of protection equipment and tools for EOD and demining.

Layman's Product Guidance from WM Robots about Vallon UXO & Mine Detectors

The primary methods of detection of metal in Vallon UXO & Mine detectors are commonly known as Differential Magnetometer and EMI (Electromagnetic Induction).  The technology desired by a customer depends on the intended scope of work.

A Differential Magnetometer contains two magnetic field detectors on opposite ends of a tube held perpendicular to the earth.  Any ferrous metal (magnetized or not) curves the earth's natural magnetic field near it, causing the two magnetic detectors to read differently.  Interpreting these readings, the Vallon detectors identify the presence of ferrous material and if it is neutral, north, or south pole.  These detector heads can also be lowered into small diameter boreholes for deep UXO detection or other ferrous metal detection in mineral mines or other underground locations.

An EMI detector uses a coil in a search head to emit and electromagnetic pulse train which influences eddy currents in any surrounding metal (both non-ferrous and ferrous).  These eddy currents are detected by the search head and processed in the detector's electronics module.  Using a combination of the proper search head and software/firmware tailors a particular detector to finding the desired mines or UXO.  Vallon's new VMXC1 detector even has the ability to discriminate between ferrous and non-ferrous metals to assist an operator in dismissing scrap metal while searching for UXO's.  Vallon's VMR2 detector contains a ground penetrating radar to verify the presence of a non-metallic object along with metal to assist with the search of mines.

The evaluation of data collected by Vallon Magnetometer and EMI detectors is just as important as the actual detection, particularly in the case of UXO geophysical surveys.  For this, Vallon created EVA2000 software, data loggers, and logging accessories which can ultimately overlay a field or borehole map of GPS encoded results on a Google Earth map.  These systems can be portable and used with a single hand held detector, or as complex as an autonomously pulled trailer with arrays of both Magnetometer and EMI detectors for economical large area scans in lieu of expensive Helicopter aerial geophysical surveys.

Ergonomics is important!  Vallon detectors basically come in three physical styles: Compact; One-Piece; & Two-Piece.  Compact detectors are designed to collapse tightly into a small footprint to fit in a small provided backpack for Military expeditionary force personnel.  The One-Piece detectors have the electronics and search heads on one common frame with an ergonomic handle which allows for thumb operation of many functions.  The One-Piece still collapses into a backpack, but not as small as the Compack detectors.  The Two-Piece detectors have the electonics package in a separate enclosure that can be clipped to the operators belt.  The hand held component is lighter and longer for better endurance, and the batteries and electronics are better protected from the cold, since they are attached to the operators belt.
